Mental Health Professionals

Due to high demand, I now offer individual consultations for mental health professionals considering moving their practice abroad. Most enquiries come from Marriage and Family Therapists in the United States, but professionals from all countries and training backgrounds are welcome. Anyone planning to practise in the UK must meet the relevant UK requirements, with the appropriate pathway depending on their qualifications and intended professional role.

Having relocated my private practice from Santa Monica, California, to London, UK, I bring first-hand experience of establishing a practice in a new country and navigating different professional systems, with particular insight into the UK, the United States and Sweden.

Moving your practice abroad

Professional titles, registration pathways, diagnostic roles and insurance recognition differ between countries. Permission to live and work in another country is a separate consideration. Local fees, practice costs and tax treatment can also affect whether a move is financially sustainable.

Which pathway might be appropriate for your training? What evidence could you need? How might your professional status affect your work, and what should you consider before making the move?

Consultations provide dedicated time to explore your circumstances, share relevant experience and identify practical next steps, including matters requiring confirmation from a regulatory authority, immigration adviser, insurer or accountant.
